Ellettsville is located in Monroe County, Indiana, approximately eight miles northwest of Bloomington and fifty miles southwest of the city of Indianapolis. Established in 1837, Ellettsville is situated in the heart of Indiana’s historic stone belt, a limestone-rich swath of land that runs through Owen, Monroe, and Lawrence counties that contributed heavily to the town’s history and made Ellettsville a major player in the nation’s limestone industry, hence the town slogan, “Builders of American History.”

Ellettsville is one of Monroe County’s fastest growing cities, with more than 6,000 current residents who enjoy the excellent schools, safe streets, and friendly hometown atmosphere that continues to attract new residents to the city each year!

Downtown Ellettsville is home to a number of homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places, including the circa-1905 First Baptist Church building and Ellettsville Town Hall, a neoclassical stone building constructed in 1927. The district features several Craftsman-style bungalows and a number of period homes, as well, from the 19th and early 20th centuries.

Ellettsville abounds with opportunities for outdoor fun and adventure! The city’s exceptionally mild climate of warm summers and mild winters makes it possible to enjoy outdoor activities year-round. Nearby recreation attractions include Cataract Falls, Flatwoods Park, and Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve, as well as Monroe Lake, Indiana’s largest recreational lake featuring amenities such as fishing, boating, hiking, biking, camping, waterfowl hunting, and all manner of watersports.

The city hosts a number of festivals and special events each year, including the Monroe County Fall Festival, a three-day event held each September at Marci Jane Lewis Park featuring live music, arts and crafts, games, contests, a parade, and more. The annual Harvest Wine Festival is held in September, as well, followed by the Hilly Hundred in October, a popular cycling event featuring a two-day bicycle tour that takes riders on a  100-mile circuitous route through the winding hills of southern Indiana, starting and ending in Ellettsville.
